Discipline... Whew y’all... I hate this word!!
DISCIPLINE IS DOING WHAT YOU KNOW NEEDS TO BE DONE EVEN IF YOU DON’T WANT TO DO IT.
Lol But I need it!! I know I struggle with it! And the worst part is that I know if I had it, a lot of my dreams would already be manifested by now. SO WHY DON'T I USE IT?! Sometimes you just don't feel like it! Well, in this case Sis, your feelings are getting in the way of your destiny. Maybe it’s my It’s my creative side and my need to create as I go (which is a real thing but not always a good thing). A mindset shift definitely has to happen. Let's work this out...
So yesterday I posted about the Grow & Glow Prayer Challenge. Discipline is going to be one of the subjects I’m going to God for. It's time out for letting life pass me by without any fruit. If I'm serious about reaching these goals, I have to be determined to make some changes. So here are some of my thoughts regarding discipline.
**Why do we NEED Discipline?!
1. Discipline forces us into a new normal. That newness is often times uncomfortable. But know that the temporary icky place is going to make you better.
2. Discipline pushes us out of our bad habits and into a productive routine.
3. Discipline sets boundaries. You now know what environment you can thrive in and what environment you will not tolerate because it is not allowing you to be fruitful. (Don't back down when you learn your boundaries.) You learn what you will accept and not accept. You LEARN HOW TO SAY NO BECAUSE IT DOES NOT ALIGN!
4. Discipline produces RESULTS! period. Once you are consistent, results have to follow! Those are the rules. If you are consistently eating healthy and working out, you're going to lose the weight.
DISCIPLINE: JUST CHOOSING BETWEEN WHAT YOU WANT NOW AND WHAT YOU WANT MOST.
**We can not rely on MOTIVATION! You will not feel motivated to get up early and read your bible all of the time! Sometimes, you're going to want to turn over and get a few more minutes of sleep. But when your motivation fails, discipline will be there to keep you going. Discipline is going to make sure you get up and read anyway, and then watch God give you something extra special for being consistent and obedient. (He's good that way <3 Sweet Self..lol)
**When You Lack Discipline, you:
1. ..Take your gift for granted.
We are supposed to be great stewards over what God has gifted us with. If you give your friend an expensive GUCCI bag (wait, Gucci is cancelled right? Im not into expensive handbags so...scratch that- another example Kim...
Ok, say you gave your friend an MacBook for Christmas, and then you see her using it as a plate for her lunch...spilling koolaid all on it too. Its as good as dead. And you're not going to want to give her anything else! Take care of your gift! You should always be working to get better at it. Perfect your craft.
2. ..Develop Procrastination & Become Lazy
I work creatively really good under pressure. But how much better would I be if I actually prepared, started on time, and took Immediate Action?! Not only better, but I would be further. Don't waste time procrastinating.
3. ..Deprive Yourself of the Freedom of Time
When you're disciplined, you get to create more time to have fun, to do some self-care, to enjoy the fruits of your labor. A disciplined life creates the dream life. When you lack discipline, you spend more time all over the place because you have no order. THROUGH DISCIPLINE COMES FREEDOM.
**So lastly, here are some tips to develop your disciplined lifestyle.
Pray! I know I am not going to be able to do this on my own. So I'm going to be very intentional and specific with this prayer.
Develop a focused mindset. Your mindset has to be strong. You can not be easily swayed by other suggestions. If it doesn't align with your vision, it's not in the plan.
Think about the end goal. This will help you develop the next tip.
Set a schedule or routine and stick to it!
TALENT WITHOUT DISCIPLINE IS JUST WASTED OPPORTUNITY.
